Elfide Mariela Rivas Gómez, Ph.D. in Architecture and Urban Affairs, is a research professor at the School of Architecture, Art, and Design (EAAD) of Tecnológico de Monterrey and a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers (Level 1). She has extensive experience as an educator, having taught Urban Planning courses at Universidad Simón Bolívar, in Venezuela (2006–2016) and graduate programs at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), in Mexico (2019–2022). In the public sector, she held management positions in the area of housing in Venezuela. She has a long track record in professional consulting in both Mexico and Venezuela, coordinating projects for upgrading low-income neighborhoods and leading specialized work in risk management, resilience, and sustainability. Her research focuses on the analysis of risk management and resilience in vulnerable cities and communities, as well as the dynamics of informality and urban self-production in the Global South.
